Day 3: Genesis 28:20-40:11 || Read the CEB online.
We’re moving trippingly along through the stories of the Patriarchs & Matriarchs of Israel. Yes, the women are highly influential in the Story as we continue reading, from the tragic episode of Dinah to the way which Rachel and Leah involve themselves in the destiny of their children and even into the next generation through the disheartening interlude with Tamar. Jacob’s pigeons come home to roost as he has to face his brother Esau for the wrongs he committed as a young man, and he has another epic encounter with God the night before he and Esau are reunited.
Joseph inaugurates the final narrative scene in Genesis. We’ll finish his story tomorrow, but it’s curious to see God at work in his story–first as an arrogant y0ung man, then more humbly and patient during the unknown years of his time in Egypt. What will become of this strange family which God has chosen?
What do you think about God’s choice in families to carry out his mission?
What strong women in your life have influenced your faith and upbringing?
